GO TEAM

So this blog signifies the end of one team’s season and the beginning of a new one… you have to read to the end to find out about the new team.

The team we are leaving behind is our Team in Training IronTeam. For all of you who have supported Paul & I through our TNT IronTeam journey, thank you! We raised over $9,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am proud to say that over the years while participating in other events we have raised over $25,000 to help fight the battle against blood cancers. This seemd small compared to the amount raised overall by the various chapters raised $1.3 MILLION dollars at this one event alone!

I can only hope that the money raised will help save someone’s family member or friend as it did my friend Jonelle. She is now getting ready to race in her first ½ Ironman triathlon and is celebrating 9 years of being cancer free! We couldn’t be more proud of her.

Our Team race was the Wildflower long course triathlon on May 1st.

The weekend was amazing and the race turned out OK too. I struggled a bit on the run due to the heat…we have been training in perfect, cool, overcast, weather, sometimes rainy days, but not sunshine and heat! This was a course that scares me more than doing an Ironman, so I was happy to finish. Cutoffs were met and I wasn’t bested by Beach Hill, NastyGrade, the Wall or the Pit! Paul killed the course and had already eaten a slice of pizza, gone for a cool down dip in the lake, and came back to the finish line where he was cheering on a bunch of teammates all before I finished. He was waiting for me at the finish and put my medal on… our new tradition.

One of the coolest things about the IronTEAM is that we leave no man behind. Throughout the season at practices everyone would wait until the last person finished. Race day was no different…not only did we wait for all of our teammates to cross the finish we greeted them at the finish with a human tunnel! It was quite a site to see, so many people lining the finish hands in the air screaming for our teammates. I think the race announcers and staff were pretty amazed at the camaraderie and support shown in what is traditionally an individual’s sport. I think some of the non-TNT racers were stunned, literally, as they finished an got caught up in our celebration of them.

I continue to be impressed by how much TNT moves me and how lucky I am to have found such a great organization and group of people to embark on these crazy adventures with.

Now it is time to share some big fun news… I was chosen to be a Team Odwalla Athlete! I am super excited about it and can’t wait to share stories about the new team and continue to keep you updated on Paul’s an my journey to Ironman Coeur d’Alene and beyond.
